November is a time for reflection, where we pause to recognize how thankful we are for a region that offers so much, from natural beauty and landscapes that inspires us and revitalizes us, to the rich bounty that is tirelessly harvested from our treasured farms, giving us access to buy these goods and bringing them directly from their farms to our tables. We are quickly approaching the Thanksgiving Holiday, and if you’ve had time to think about planning your holiday meals, have you considered sourcing your ingredients from one of our local farms? We’d like to give you a snap shot of a few producers in our region who are preparing to supply us with all of the goods we need to prepare a healthy, and sustainable farm to table Thanksgiving dinner for friends and loved ones to enjoy this season.
Stone & Thistle Farm raises grass fed lamb, goat, pork, beef, poultry on the family farm located in a lush quiet valley in the beautiful town of East Meredith, NY. Stone & Thistle Farm’s livestock and poultry are raised on pastures most of the year. The dairy goats, pigs, and poultry are fed minimal amounts of local grains. No additives, hormones, antibiotics or drugs are used to raise naturally healthy, farm-fresh meat and eggs.
This holiday season, Stone & Thistle Farm is happily taking pre-orders for Thanksgiving Turkeys! The birds will weigh between 14 and 25 lbs each, and are priced at $4.95 / lb. You can place a $20 deposit that reserves you a bird this season, and can pick up your turkey at the Pakatakan Farmers Market in Holcottsville, NY on November 17th, or make arrangements for picking up the turkey at the Farm. Located in the western Catskill mountains in the town of Meredith is Greenane Farms, another family operation that raises raising grass-fed Angus cattle, heritage pigs, chicken, quail, goats, and of course, turkeys! They also operate a full service farm to table Mexican restaurant in the hamlet of Meridale, NY, serving gourmet Mexican cuisine sourcing ingredients directly from their farm.
Greenane Farms will be taking orders for their Thanksgiving Turkeys that are raised and processed right on the farm. Karl Family Farms is a small family farm located in the shadows of the Showagunk Mountains in Modena, NY. It is their goal to provide their customers with the healthiest and highest quality, locally produced and humanely raised meats.
This season, Karl Family Farms is taking deposits for their pasture-raised, antibiotic and hormone free Thanksgiving turkeys just in time to enjoy for the holiday. Their birds spend their days foraging happily on pasture where their pasture based diet is supplemented with the certified organic grains milled in New York. The birds weigh between 12-18 lbs, and are priced at $7.25 / lb.
