Area Business Spotlight: The Bull & Garland Pub and Inn (Hobart, NY)
The Bull & Garland is an authentic English pub and inn located in Hobart, New York, a tiny rural village known as the “book village” for its eclectic collection of small book stores along Main Street. After opening its doors to the public last fall, the Bull & Garland has become another good reason to visit this corner of the Catskills: tasty traditional pub food in a cozy atmosphere has made the restaurant a smash hit for locals and a destination spot for visitors almost overnight. It’s where you go to have a great time with friends around excellent food.
Owners Melissa and Oliver lovingly renovated the historic 1830s inn that houses the bar and restaurant as well as three thoughtfully appointed rooms upstairs available for overnight stays. Beautiful touches of history have been preserved throughout: hand-carved wood beams, wide plank floors, dining room fireplace, and antique heirloom decorations and furniture.
The pub serves traditional, consistently delicious English pub fare in generous portions. Made from fresh local ingredients, customer favorites include fish and chips, daily changing pot pie, scotch eggs, hand-cut fries and gorgonzola pesto gnocchi. Kids have their own menu too. The full bar serves a variety of New York State beers and ciders alongside other local products. What really sets The Bull & Garland apart is their customer service: friendly, attentive staff and swift service make each customer feel like they are among old friends.
On warm evenings, diners can eat outside on the covered porch, and The Bull & Garland also have plans to open up their stream-side beer garden for full service dining this summer. Warm summer nights out in the garden with pretty twinkling lights create a magical setting for dinner.
The Bull & Garland is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 4pm to 11pm and Sundays from 4pm to 9pm. Reservations are recommended. The rooms at the inn are available throughout the week.
